Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Filling
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
- 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
For Serving
- 1 head butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
- Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Cook Chicken: Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, for 5-7 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and browned.
- Combine Sauces and Vegetables: Stir in the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chopped water chestnuts. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture is heated through and well combined.
- Finish with Green Onions: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sliced green onions for freshness and texture.
- Serve: Spoon the chicken mixture into the separated butter or iceberg lettuce leaves. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use butter lettuce for softer, more pliable wraps or iceberg lettuce for a crisp crunch.
- Adjust the amount of hoisin and soy sauce to your taste preferences for sweetness and saltiness.
- Can be served as an appetizer or light main course.
- To make it gluten-free, ensure soy sauce and hoisin sauce are gluten-free varieties.
- Optional: add chopped peanuts or shredded carrots for extra texture.
