Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Peking Chicken Lettuce Wraps featuring ground chicken sautéed with aromatic garlic, ginger, and savory sauces, served in crisp butter lettuce leaves. Perfect for a light, flavorful meal that’s ready in 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced

For Serving

  • 1 head butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
  2. Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Cook Chicken: Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, for 5-7 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and browned.
  4. Combine Sauces and Vegetables: Stir in the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chopped water chestnuts. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the mixture is heated through and well combined.
  5. Finish with Green Onions: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sliced green onions for freshness and texture.
  6. Serve: Spoon the chicken mixture into the separated butter or iceberg lettuce leaves. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use butter lettuce for softer, more pliable wraps or iceberg lettuce for a crisp crunch.
  • Adjust the amount of hoisin and soy sauce to your taste preferences for sweetness and saltiness.
  • Can be served as an appetizer or light main course.
  • To make it gluten-free, ensure soy sauce and hoisin sauce are gluten-free varieties.
  • Optional: add chopped peanuts or shredded carrots for extra texture.
