Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Dip:
- 1 lb white American cheese, cubed or shredded
- 1/2 cup whole milk (plus more as needed)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 (4 oz) can diced green chilies
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Chopped fresh cilantro or jalapeños for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the white American cheese, milk, and cream. Stir constantly until the cheese begins to melt and the mixture becomes smooth.
- Add the diced green chilies, garlic powder, onion powder, and cumin (if using). Continue stirring until fully combined and the dip reaches a smooth, pourable consistency.
- If it’s too thick, add more milk a tablespoon at a time until desired texture is reached. Taste and season with salt as needed.
- Keep warm on the stove or in a slow cooker until ready to serve. Garnish with cilantro or sliced jalapeños if desired.
Notes
- Use high-quality white American cheese from the deli counter for best results—processed slices won’t melt as smoothly.
- Serve warm with tortilla chips, over nachos, or drizzled on tacos.
- Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat gently with a splash of milk.
