Description

This Melting Witch Poke Cake is a fun and spooky Halloween dessert that is perfect for parties or gatherings. With a rich chocolate base, creamy pudding layer, and whimsical decorations, it’s sure to be a hit with both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus eggs, oil, and water as called for on box)

For the Filling:

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • Green food coloring

For Topping and Decoration:

  • 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping (thawed)
  • Crushed chocolate cookies (for “dirt”)
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Witch hats or legs decorations (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package directions and bake in a 9×13-inch pan. Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes, then use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface.
  2. Add the Filling: Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
  3. Make the Pudding Layer: In a medium bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until it starts to thicken. Add green food coloring until a bright “witchy” green is achieved. Spread the pudding evenly over the cake, pressing gently so it seeps into the holes.
  4. Chill and Top: Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to set. Once chilled, spread whipped topping over the top. Sprinkle with crushed cookies and Halloween sprinkles.
  5. Decorate: Decorate with witch hats or candy witch legs to give the look of a “melting witch.” Keep chilled until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Make it extra festive by adding a drizzle of chocolate syrup or green-tinted ganache before serving.
  • This is a fun and easy Halloween dessert kids will love helping decorate!
