Ingredients

Scale

Cupcake:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (plus extra for garnish)

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Add the maple syrup, eggs, milk, vanilla, and maple extract if using. Mix until smooth.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans.
  6. Bake: Divide the batter among cupcake liners and bake for 18–20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Make frosting: Beat butter and maple syrup until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add milk as needed for consistency.
  8. Frost cupcakes: Frost the cooled cupcakes and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Notes

  • Toasting the pecans before adding them enhances their flavor.
  • Use a piping bag for a more decorative frosting finish.
  • These cupcakes pair well with coffee or spiced tea.
