Description

Lowcountry Chewies are delightful chewy bar cookies with a rich brown sugar flavor. These Southern treats are easy to make and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

  1. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, combine melted butter and brown sugar. Stir until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, whisk until fully incorporated.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Fold in pecans if using.
  5. Bake: Spread batter in pan and bake for 28-32 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve: Cool completely before cutting into squares. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
