  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

Topping (optional):

  • Powdered sugar or a thin layer of melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Make the cake layers: In a saucepan, melt butter, sugar, and honey. Whisk in eggs, then add baking soda dissolved in warm milk. Gradually mix in flour and divide into 4 parts. Roll out each portion and bake until golden.
  2. Make the filling: Whisk together sugar, cornstarch, flour, and egg yolk in a saucepan. Gradually add milk, cook until thickened, then stir in vanilla and butter.
  3. Assemble the cake: Layer cake and filling, refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Dust with powdered sugar or melted chocolate before serving.
