Description

Indulge in the rich flavors of Gourmet Cheesy Mushroom and Garlic Toasts, a French-inspired appetizer that elevates simple ingredients into a delicious treat. Sautéed mushrooms with garlic and thyme, topped with melted cheese on crispy bread slices, make for a delightful combination of textures and tastes.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushroom Mixture:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces cremini or baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/4 teaspoon dried)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream (optional)

Assembly:

  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • 4 slices crusty sourdough or French bread
  • 1 clove garlic, cut in half (for rubbing toast)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Sauté mushrooms: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet. Cook mushrooms until browned. Add garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Sauté briefly.
  3. Finish mushroom mixture: Stir in heavy cream if using. Remove from heat.
  4. Toast bread: Toast bread slices in the oven for 5 minutes. Rub with garlic.
  5. Assemble: Top each slice with mushroom mixture and cheese. Bake until cheese is melted.
  6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can swap Gruyère with fontina, provolone, or sharp white cheddar.
  • For a truffle twist, drizzle with a few drops of truffle oil before serving.
  • Pairs beautifully with soup or salad for a light lunch.
