A delicious and quick Garlic Mushroom Grilled Cheese sandwich featuring sautéed garlic and mushrooms combined with melted cheese between buttery toasted bread slices.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Mushroom Garlic Sauté
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Sandwich
- 4 slices bread
- 4 slices cheese (such as cheddar or Swiss)
- Additional butter, for grilling
Instructions
- Sauté Garlic: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Cook Mushrooms: Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until tender and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Bread for Grilling: Heat a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet or griddle. Top each slice with a slice of cheese, then evenly divide the cooked mushrooms onto the cheese layers.
- Top Sandwiches: Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the mushrooms, buttered side facing up.
- Grill Sandwiches: Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet or griddle and let them cool for a minute before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use your favorite cheese like cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella for varying flavors.
- For extra flavor, add fresh herbs like thyme or parsley to the mushrooms while cooking.
- If you prefer a crispier sandwich, grill for an additional minute per side.
- To make it vegetarian-friendly, ensure cheese used does not contain animal rennet.
- Serve with a side of soup or salad for a complete meal.
