Ingredients
Scale
Wonton Strips
- 12 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 inches deep)
- Salt, to taste
Optional Dipping Sauces
- Sweet and sour sauce
- Duck sauce
Instructions
- Prepare Wonton Strips: Stack the wonton wrappers and cut them into thin strips, approximately 1/2 inch wide, ensuring even size for consistent frying.
- Heat Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Strips: Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, carefully add the wonton strips to the hot oil. Fry for 30 to 60 seconds, or until they puff up and become golden brown and crisp.
- Drain and Season: Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried strips to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still warm, immediately sprinkle with salt to enhance flavor.
- Serve: Serve the crispy wonton strips plain or with your favorite dipping sauces such as sweet and sour or duck sauce for a delightful appetizer.
Notes
- Watch the strips carefully during frying as they cook very quickly and can burn easily.
- For a flavor variation, season the strips with garlic powder, chili powder, or cinnamon sugar after frying.
- Store cooled fried wonton strips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days for freshness.
