Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the mixture is frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the melted butter, salt, and eggs into the yeast mixture until well combined.
- Form Dough: Gradually add the flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough begins to form.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Divide Dough: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape Rolls: Shape each piece into a smooth ball and arrange them in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each.
- Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes, until puffed up.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown on top.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- You can brush the rolls with melted butter immediately after baking for a softer crust.
- For a richer flavor, substitute the milk with buttermilk or add herbs to the dough.
- These rolls freeze well; cool completely before freezing and reheat in the oven to refresh.
