  • 2 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Peel (optional) and core apples, then slice into fry-shaped sticks. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Coating: Place flour in a shallow dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg and milk. In a third dish, combine panko breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Dredging: Dredge apple slices first in flour, then in egg mixture, then coat evenly with breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Air Frying: Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Arrange coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking spray. Cook for 6–8 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve: Serve warm with caramel sauce, vanilla yogurt, or whipped cream for dipping.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, skip the flour and egg coating and simply toss apple slices with cinnamon-sugar before air frying.
  • You can also make them gluten-free by using almond flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
