Ingredients

Scale

Pasta:

  • 8 oz penne or rotini pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Sauce:

  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
  • 2 cups small broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Topping:

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent rolls

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta: in salted boiling water until al dente. Add broccoli in the last 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. Cook the sausage: in a skillet until browned. Remove excess grease.
  4. Make the sauce: melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add milk. Stir in cheeses, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Combine: Add pasta, broccoli, and sausage to the cheese sauce, mix well.
  6. Bake: Transfer mixture to a baking dish, top with crescent dough triangles, and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden.

Notes

  • You can use pre-steamed broccoli or microwave frozen broccoli to save time.
  • Swap cheddar for mozzarella or gouda for a different flavor.
  • For a spicier version, use hot Italian sausage and add red pepper flakes.
