Description

This Baked Cranberry Brie Bread Bowl is a warm and festive appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy nights. A round bread boule is hollowed out and filled with creamy Brie cheese, topped with a sweet and tangy mixture of cranberries, nuts, honey, and cinnamon, then baked until bubbly and golden. Served with the bread pieces for dipping, it’s a delightful combination of textures and flavors that’s sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Bowl and Cheese

  • 1 round bread boule (sourdough or any round loaf)
  • 1 wheel of Brie cheese

Toppings

  • 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Garnish (Optional)

  • Fresh rosemary or thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bread bowl and Brie.
  2. Prepare the Bread Bowl: Cut the top off the bread boule and carefully hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell. Set aside the removed bread pieces for dipping later.
  3. Prepare the Brie: Cut the top rind off the Brie cheese wheel, then place the Brie inside the hollowed-out bread bowl.
  4. Add Toppings: In a small bowl, combine cranberries, chopped nuts, honey or maple syrup, and ground cinnamon. Spoon this mixture evenly over the Brie in the bread bowl.
  5. Bake: Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the Brie is melted and bubbly and the bread is toasted.
  6. Serve: Once baked, garnish with fresh rosemary or thyme if desired. Serve immediately with the reserved bread pieces, crackers, or sliced apples for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute dried cranberries for fresh if unavailable; just soak dried cranberries briefly in warm water to rehydrate if desired.
  • Choose any round loaf of bread that has a sturdy crust to hold the melted Brie and toppings.
  • Use pecans or walnuts based on preference or availability.
  • Honey and maple syrup are interchangeable to adjust sweetness.
  • For a more intense herb flavor, add fresh herbs over the top after baking.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the Brie warm and melty.
